October 2020 Happenings

October 16 update – unfortunately, the pesky Covid-19 virus is not cooperating with our hopes & plans! Cases are on the rise in our community and we are returning to online only worship for the time being. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and when things improve and conditions are favorable again, we will continue to follow the CDC guidelines (or any updated version) as detailed below to resume in person worship. Until then – join us each Sunday at 10:30 am (central time) on Facebook!

Whew! Made it to a little cooler weather for October! As the pandemic drags on, our hearts and minds abide in the grace of God and the faith in His promises! We have been blessed to be able to worship together on line. And to Zoom together for many Bible Studies, meetings, and gatherings. The active cases in our county have decreased to a point to consider returning in person and, with a 10-2 vote, our church council has voted to approve opening our building for in-person worship. We are following CDC guidelines including limited occupancy, wearing masks AT ALL TIMES, and social distancing. Unfortunately, the CDC also advises that it is not safe for everyone to return in person and those at higher risk of infection or complications are encouraged to continue joining us in our Face Book live services. A few points from the CDC to consider if you may have increased risks:

Being 65 years or older, with increased risk of complications & severity of
illness with each decade of life (if you are over 70, you are strongly encouraged to continue on-line worship – stay safe!)
If you have a heart condition or vascular disease (at any age)
If you are diabetic (at any age)
If you have any respiratory condition (asthma, COPD, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, etc., at any age)
If you are obese (at any age)
If you take care of anyone or live with someone with any of these risks, they could become at risk if you are exposed and take it home to them
If your immune system is compromised either by a health condition or the medications you take
If you are fighting cancer
If you have chronic kidney disease
In general, the more people you interact with, and the more closely you interact with them, and the longer that interaction,                             the higher the risk of COVID-19 spread.

If you choose to attend in person, in addition to having your temperature taken before entering and being asked to wear a mask, you will be asked the following questions:

  • Have you or anyone in your household had any of the following symptoms in the last 21 days: sore
throat, cough, chills, body aches for unknown reasons, shortness of breath for unknown reasons,
loss of smell, loss of taste, fever at or greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit?
  • Have you or anyone in your household been tested for COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks? If so, do you have results?
  • Have you or anyone in your household cared for an individual who is in quarantine or is a
presumed positive or has tested positive for COVID-19?
  • Do you have any reason to believe you or anyone in your household has been exposed to or have COVID-19?
  • Have you or anyone in your household been a patient overnight in a hospital, nursing home, long-term care, or other health care facility in the past 21 days? if so, we’ll talk about it (we’d like you to be home, relatively quarantined 2-3 weeks before coming to church)
  • Have you or anyone in your household traveled in the U.S. in the past 21 days?
  • Are you or anyone in your household a health care provider or emergency responder? (we’ll follow up with questions about risk)
  • To the best of your knowledge have you been near any individual who tested positive for COVID-19?

When the weather is cooperative, we will try things like Hooked on Love and other small group meetings outside, spread out, and with masks on.  We invite you to prayerfully consider if you can safely join in as we add a little back to in-person events.
