What does a typical worship service look like?

Our worship focuses on historic Christianity and follows a traditional liturgical style thoughtfully woven into a modern context.  Liturgy is a predetermined order of service that keeps worship consistent from week to week. We have a three-year rotating calendar of which Bible passages we focus on. Our services draw from the rich traditions of liturgical worship, placing a strong emphasis on congregational singing accompanied by piano or organ. Preaching is centered on the Bible. We use a printed bulletin and recite the Lord’s Prayer and creeds like the Apostles’  and Nicene Creeds. We invite you to join us in this sacred practice as we come together in reverence and joy.

You can watch full worship services on our Facebook page and find selected sermons on our YouTube page.

Here’s what to expect from a Sunday service:

  1. All are welcome to pick-up a bulletin from our greeters as they enter into the space. These bulletins have the order of worship on it and details that might be helpful for first-time worshippers and returners alike.
  2. We use “Evangelical Lutheran Worship” which is the current primary liturgical and worship guidebook and hymnal for use in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
  3. Central Lutheran has an Open Table, welcoming everyone to share in communion, regardless of beliefs. If you prefer to remain in your seat or would like to come forward and receive a blessing instead, you are warmly invited to do so. All are welcome in this sacred space.
  4. During our service, we take a moment to exchange ‘The Peace’ with one another. This is an opportunity to greet each other and share a handshake. If you’re not comfortable shaking hands, that’s perfectly fine—just offer a peace sign instead. Everyone is welcome to participate in this moment of connection.
