Ongoing ways to serve:
Blessing Bags are small gifts to share with people we encounter in the community who might need a little extra support. We collect nonperishable food and essential hygiene items all year and pack them into bags a couple of times each year. If you’d like to pick up a Blessing Bag to keep on hand, you’ll usually find them at the back of the sanctuary.
Hooked on Love is a knitting and crochet ministry that meets once a month on the first Saturday from 1-4 pm at Knit Dallas (6434 E Mockingbird Ln. Ste. 105, Dallas, TX 75214). All skill levels are welcome.
Our community garden is tucked away at the back of our property, just behind the parking lot. It features ten lots that you can reserve in full or half sizes. The best part? Everyone is welcome to harvest the fresh produce and herbs! We’re always on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to help with the garden- whether through preparing lots as the seasons change, to regular watering and pest maintenance.
Help during worship: There are several ways you can help during worship- as an usher, reader, communion assistants, and assistant minister. Ushers hand out the bulletins, pass out the offering plates, and tidy the sanctuary after services. Readers- also called lectors- read the Bible lessons into a microphone at the front of the sanctuary. Communion assistants help the pastor give communion- usually by holding the wine or grape juice. There are plenty of ways to get involved during worship! You can volunteer as an usher, reader, communion assistant, or assistant minister.
- Ushers welcome everyone by handing out bulletins, passing offering plates, and tidying up the sanctuary after services.
- Readers, or lectors, read the Bible passages from the front of the sanctuary.
- Communion assistants help the pastor with communion, usually by holding the wine or grape juice.
Each role is a great way to serve and be part of the worship experience!
Tuesday Morning Bible Study meets weekly from September to May in our conference room from 10:30 am to noon. All adults are welcome to join.

The bereavement committee helps provide food for receptions following funerals or memorials that happen at the church.
Dining Around is a fellowship group who meet on the second Saturday of every month at 5:30 pm at different local restaurants. It’s all about good food and good company—just a relaxed time together, no strings attached!
Collections
The Back-to-School Bash is our biggest collection event of the year! All summer long, we gather school supplies based on the DISD list for the upcoming school year. Then, in early August, we distribute around 300 clear backpacks filled with everything kids need—organized by grade level from PreK through 12th grade.
White Rock Center of Hope (WRCOH) is a local charity that we aid in ministry. WRCOH has a food pantry, clothing closet, and offers direct financial assistance for things like rent and utilities. A few times a year, we collect food donations for their food pantry. In the past, these collections have been centered around holidays- such as Thanksgiving or Lent and Easter.
Mt. Olive Lutheran Frances Byrd Horn of Plenty Food Pantry serves the needs of the South Dallas Community. It operates on Wednesdays from 11 am to 2 pm and ministers to those living in the 75215 and 75210 zip codes. During certain times of year we collect nonperishable food for the pantry.
